Every result includes the place name, country, latitude and longitude, a map pin and a short background from Wikipedia, so you know exactly where it is and what you are looking at.

Describe the place in your own words
Type what you remember — a half-recalled name, a misspelling, or 'the Japanese city with all the cherry blossoms' — and you get the place back with its country, region and a pin on the map. This is the quickest route when you saw somewhere but never took the picture.
Read the GPS already inside the file
When a photo still carries its EXIF GPS tag, that is a recorded measurement rather than an inference, so it outranks everything else: exact coordinates, straight onto a map. Most pictures saved from social apps have had that tag stripped — the EXIF Location Viewer tells you whether yours still has one before you go any further.
Recognise what is actually in the frame
Monuments, skylines and other well-photographed landmarks are matched against known places, and any legible text in the shot — a shop sign, a street plate, a station name — is used as a further clue. A famous building is usually named outright. An ordinary residential street usually is not.
Say where the answer came from
Every result carries the coordinates, the method behind it and a confidence figure, plus a short background from Wikipedia when the place has an entry. If nothing in the picture is conclusive, the finder says so rather than returning a guess dressed up as a fact.

The best case. Anything photographed millions of times — a cathedral, a bridge, a distinctive tower, a recognisable skyline — is usually named correctly, and you get the city and coordinates with it.
Shop fronts, road signs, number plates and station names narrow things down fast, often to a specific street. Script and language alone can rule out most of the world before anything else is read.
Straight off a phone or camera, with the GPS tag intact, the location is not a guess at all. Note that this cuts both ways: it is also how a photo you share can reveal where you live.
Terrain, vegetation and light can suggest a region or a hemisphere, but a stretch of sand looks much like any other stretch of sand. Expect a rough area at best, and often nothing at all.
